2、Committee approved the Electronic Communications PrivacyAct of 2000 (H.R. 5018) on September 26, 2000. The purpose of H.R. 5018 is tomodify certain provisions of Title 18 relating to the interception of electroniccommunications, and to address some of the legal issues that the Internet raises. H.R.5
3、018 would (i) amend the laws governing how law enforcement may obtain non-contentinformation under pen register/trap and trace statutes; (ii) extend the statutoryexclusionary rule to electronic communications in transit (real-time), and to storedelectronic communications; and (iii) extend Title IIIs
4、 (the wiretap statute) reportingrequirements to stored electronic communications. H.R. 5018 was amended inCommittee. A similar bill has not been introduced in the Senate.
