U.S. competition with Russia occurs at many levels, from the military arenaand Russia s armed forces have been bolstered by large investments and ambitious reforms over the past ten yearsto the economic, political, and social realms. The RAND Corporation has conducted extensive research on how and why the United States is engaged in strategic competition with Russia. This Perspective reviews 58 RAND reports on this topic from 2015 through mid-2020. These reports do not offer a comprehensive view of competition with Russia; the military and informational aspects of the competition are overrepresented, partially because of sponsor requirements.
