2、ay on the subject of the Future of National Defense and the U.S.Military Ten Years After 9/11.On September 11,2001,I was working in the Pentagon as part of a small team drafting the 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review.The 9/11 attacks were a watershed event for the Department of Defense,and for me perso
3、nally.The attacks immediately reduced the peacetime bureaucratic processes of the day,including the QDR,to trivialities,as the Department and the Nation unified in their determination to vanquish the Islamist terrorists who perpetrated the attacks and to prevent further attacks on the United States.
4、This week,it is appropriate that we remember those who were murdered by al Qaeda on that sunny Tuesday morning in New York,Washington,and Pennsylvania.We also remember those who serve in our intelligence and military services,and their families,and have made such extraordinary sacrifices in Iraq,Afg
